Blitz the Gap
This working group brought together biodiversity researchers, data scientists, and iNaturalist users to develop challenges to fill in some of the most important biodiversity data gaps on iNaturalist. We collaborated virtually with a similar team at McGill University. The BC working group was co-sponsored by Data4Nature and the CIEE’s Living Data Project. The Blitz the Gap project is the brainchild of Laura Pollock (LDP & McGill) and has now logged more than two million iNaturalist observations!

BC Biodiversity Network
The BC Biodiversity Network has launched! We have developed a prospectus, a website and logo, and are now developing an outreach strategy to engage biodiversity practitioners across BC. This includes academics, NGOs, government agencies, private sector, and – importantly – First Nations. An important part of the BCBN data policy must be respect for Indigenous data sovereignty. The BCBN will also be a regional node of a Canadawide network.
